Hey everyone in the West Band Community. I know it may be hard for you to let go, but both of our band directors are moving on in the career. And it is a good reasons too. There shouldn't be any hate between people cussing and saying bad things about either of them. They are still part of us, even though they won't be here next year.
We must all look at this as an opprotunity to grow musically. We have new opinions, new point of views. I will not tolerate people saying that band is not going to be the same. Of course it won't. It isn't the same every two days. No pessimism in the band. We all must take this maturely and greet the new directors with 100% of our devotion to them. And I know that people worshipped Adams like god. I certainly was one of them. But we now have two new directors and we must (and this sounds crazy) worship them.
I'm sure whoever is going to be directing the band will know our talent within the first couple of weeks. We have marching band to prove that we are good musicians. That we are a good ENSEMBLE. And we have a heck of a show to prove that, for those who have not heard it yet.
It may take them months to settle in, but we need to make it seem like weeks or even days. We cannot be on the "you took Adams job I hate you" bandwagon because that is absolutely absurd. Adams left at his own disgression. Now we must do whatever we can to make the new band directors feel comfortable so tensions are lowered in the band. You will not see me act hostily to the new band directors. I am going on rookie day to set an example of how everyone should act. Many people understand this, but some do not. We need to be open minded at this time in our band career. I don't want to hear talks of quitting or dropping band, and ESPECIALLY NOT talks of not giving 100%. We need to give 150% times 10.
Now, I don't know what to expect. I don't know what kind of pieces we are going to play. But I guarentee that Mr. Adams is giving them a good clue of where we are at level wise...Grade 3-5 pieces. And the same with the jazz band. So, if you think about it, nothing is going to change musically.
So let's show them. So let's show ourselves. We can do this. |
carry on wayward son. i know you guys can do it!!! good job devin. you should get this out to as many band kids as possible. there will always be attitude problems (no matter whether you have adams or not) and this change was just setting up for huge issues, but i think if you and the other seniors get together and decide to make this a good year, you'll go far. oh yeah, that was Lauren^ Well for you to know. Section leaders go to rookie day. Duh. Well the thing is, We shouldn't expect the new Band director to be Mr Adams. We should expect him(Or god forbid...............her......) To be their own person. I'm hoping it's someone with a Russian accent. That would be neat. Or a hot, fresh out of college chick. That would be neat too. I just hope both people are fresh out of college. Haha. It will be an adventure! i keep thinking of miss nick..and if she would have stayed one more year...she would have been the head of the dept. but alas, she is having the time of her life right now and i'm so glad she took that job offer. now...women are just as capable to git er' done. just give them a chance. :D Funny you mention Miss Nick. Its the same thing with mr adams and band as it was for miss nick and orchestra. Kate Cindy and..........the other cello player had to go through their senior year without mrs nick, with a brand new teacher. Well Im sick of the topic, its been worn out, itme to move on I hate to say it boys, but I heard (from like 5 different people) that my old band director at Parkside is going to come to West. She is really awesome! Her name is Mrs. Francoeur (Frang-core) and her brother is actually the band director for Londonderry! its funny She is really skilled, loves what she does, and is just a really good person. If what I heard is true, I hope you bandies are please. I will be :-) I sent her an email and she said "It is a possibility at the moment" So im thinking she is, as mr adams also told me "Its almost defidentally going to be mrs franceour"
