so how about that west band?

OH NO!!!! Mar. 21st, 2006 @ 08:53 pm

Concerns and whispers of mishandling of the funds emerged shortly after former music teacher Stephen Baberadt Jr. left Peabody Veterans Memorial High School to accept a position in Manchester, N.H. Baberadt could not be reached for comment.

Baberadt, who had led the trip to Disney World, was upset by the rumors, and explained that he'd been offered money to cover the cost of his family traveling with him during that trip, which he accepted but later reimbursed the group when other parents raised some concern about misusing the funds.

However, the audit raised additional questions of double-billing and a lot of additional charges connected to the trip.

Part of the concern was that Baberadt had put deposits for the trip on his personal credit card in order to meet deadlines that Disney had set, and sought reimbursement later as money was raised by the parents.

While he assumed some personal risk doing this, he had been assured by parents he'd be reimbursed for that money spent.

The credit card he used also offered 'Disney Dollars,' credits redeemable at Disney World for every dollar spent on the card.

Ok, we need to start up this community again. We like communication.

I love band, but we already know that.

Our first concert wasn't a disaster, trust me it could be worse **coughs**myfreshmanyear**coughs**

The BSO was really awesome...

And what else is new?

K whats your thoughts on Mr B. I think the band camp experience has given me enough info about him to where i say, HEs allright. I mean he acts liek a crackheaded squirell with ADHD after having 8 liters of mountain dew, but he does know his shit.

Oh and we all know mrs franceour is the best person ever, even though she didnt do shit during band camp but stand around and nod and agree.

Still mulling over the music department at West, it seems like the West Admin and school board (and maybe even the Aldermen) are continuing to defeat the music department. Music is so important to so many people. And I feel bad now that Mr. Adams is gone because he fought so hard against those people to make our style of band life better. And now, who knows how long the band kids will have the same musty marching uniforms. Are funds going to be taken away from the band? These are the questions that no band member has control over. We can change how we work on a small scale, but who is going to fight to keep music important in Manchester?

I feel bad for all of the people that are going to go through West in the next couple of years. We, as a band, depend so much on the money we get from the city for new drum heads, new school instruments, new uniforms, repairs, etc. Is there something we can do? Do we as students have enough power to change the minds of powerful men?
